East Midlands Airport, England
East Midlands airport in UK is about 30 minutes drive from Nottingham. It is NOT Nottingham airport though. Nottingham airport is a little, tiny single field affair for private planes. The baggage handling at East Midlands is phenomenal. There are no air bridges, so by the time you have walked, or been bussed from your plane to the arrivals hall your luggage is on the carousel, waiting for you, even at 2am! If you have a hire car booked the rental desks are all in the arrivals hall, as you come through customs. Be aware though that there is nowhere in the departure hall to return the keys for your hire car when you are returning it. Last time I flew out of East Midlands Airport I nearly missed my flight back to Cork. I had left my hotel in time to arrive at the airport 3 hours before the flight. There was a road traffic accident and I was delayed for two and a half hours. Once I arrived at the airport I had to work out where to park my hire car. Even when I had found the car parking area and worked out how to get into it, there were no spaces for my car hire company. In the end I just put it at the end of a line. I ran, with trundling wheeled suitcase to the airport building, only to be told that the Departure building was 200 metres away. I ran on. I checked in 20 minutes before the flight without any problems, then had to run back 200 metres to the Arrivals building to return my car key, and back again to go through security. As I passed out of security my flight was boarding. Remember to allow PLENTY of time and that the Departures and Arrivals buildings are 200 metres apart! Hand in your car hire keys in the Arrivals Building.
