Renault Kangoo van, user's report
The Renault Kangoo is an amazing small van. Renault also do a passenger version. The van is tall, with a narrow wheelbase and looks strange from the rear. You can fit eight full size pallets into the back, it is so incredibly capacious. There is a tubular steel bulkhead between the load space and the front of the van. The windscreen is high and the driver position slightly higher than average. Above the windscreen is a very useful storage area that stretches all the way across. There are the usual storage bins in the front doors, but the glove box is full with two pairs of gloves. The passenger seat is only designed for children and there is no adjustment possible for this seat. The van comes with a range of engines. The 1.5 litre diesel has good acceleration at low speed, but you have to drive it hard and noisily. This engine struggles to push even an empty van above 55mph going uphill. Boy racers should avoid the Kangoo and go for the equivalent small Opel or Vauxhall 1.7 diesel Combo van. The 1.9TDi Kangoo has a lot more power. The 1.5 diesel has impressive fuel economy, delivering 50+ miles per gallon, even with 83,000 miles on the clock. Service intervals are 18,000 miles. Comfort is an area where the van is lacking. The suspension is very hard and the van bounces and jiggles about on poor roads. The engine noise and tyre noise are bad because of the basic nature of the van and its very poor sound insulation. Lots of noise comes from the steel floored load space. Mirrors are good, lights are good, controls are ok and gear box ok.
